Honolua Honu

Honolua Honu is a one-of-a-kind original watercolor painting inspired by an unforgettable moment I photographed while snorkeling in Maui’s Honolua Bay, where I watched this Hawaiian green sea turtle (honu) become completely mesmerized by a colorful Hawaiian saddle wrasse (hīnālea lauwili) darting through the deep blue shadows below. Working from my underwater capture, I layered expressive washes of deep indigo, royal violet, warm golden ochre, and coral magenta to recreate the shifting, dappled light of the living reef.
